River charity boosted by £20,000 funding
A river charity says it is primed to boost schools work after a £20,000 funding boost.
Tyne Rivers Trust has been backed by Tyne Tunnels operator TT2.
Officials say the cash will support the charity’s learning programme.
Tyne Rivers Trust and TT2 will visit a number of schools to talk to students about the importance of the River Tyne to the region, its industrial heritage, the challenges it faces and the solutions that are being put into place for the protection and regeneration of the river and its wildlife.
TT2 staff will also join Tyne Rivers Trust for a day of sustainability-focused volunteering that will include tree planting and riverbank stabilisation.
Simone Saville, Tyne Rivers Trust’s head of learning and engagement, said: “Our relationship with TT2 stretches back to the inception of Tyne Rivers Trust, and we are extremely grateful for this latest funding support.
“The aim of our learning programme is to bring the river closer to young people, and this investment helps us continue this important work.”
Adrian Wallace, TT2 chief executive, added: “We are committed to supporting initiatives that make a meaningful difference to both the environment and our local communities.
“This project is a great example of that, and we’re proud to partner with Tyne Rivers Trust to help deliver these inspiring sessions to children across our region.”
