Planning specialist secures renewables work

A North East planning specialist is expanding its national operations with renewable energy projects.

Hedley Planning, based in Northumberland, has secured approval to install a small wind turbine in the Peak District National Park.

The project, part of a green initiative by the owner, involves a 3kW, three-metre-high micro wind turbine on agricultural land at Pott Shrigley, near Macclesfield.

Local planners approved the scheme, noting minimal impact on the landscape and confirming the site’s suitability following noise and ecological assessments conducted by Hedley Planning.

Once installed, the turbine will generate around 1.8 kWh per day, enough to power the property and reduce its carbon footprint.

The project reflects a growing trend of landowners diversifying agriculture through renewable energy investments to secure their futures amid the UK’s ongoing energy crisis.

Hedley Planning has seen increasing work in the renewable sector, especially with small-scale turbines like the popular Engelec model.

Alex Franklin, associate director at Hedley Planning, said: “Harnessing wind power is one of the most efficient ways to supply clean energy for local landowners and homeowners as we continue to face an energy crisis in this country.

“We are seeing more applications coming forward as landowners see the advantages and want to plug in to greener energy solutions.”

Foundation work is scheduled for autumn 2025, with energy generation expected later in the year.
