Multi-million upgrades drive record hotel sales
A hotel operator has hailed the impact of a £5 million upgrade after chalking up record sales.
Radisson Blu Durham says July revenues rose 21 per cent on a year ago.
Bosses say the uptick was aided by an ongoing refurbishment programme, which has refreshed more than 80 of its 207 bedrooms.
They add further room renovations and an upgrade of the venue’s spa will take place next year.
Its latest work included new beds, floor-to-ceiling mirrors, fridges and televisions and bathroom upgrades, with its third floor also undergoing a full décor refresh.
And officials say it has had great effect, with increased demand for meetings and events.
Stuart Lloyd, general manager, said: “It’s about elevating the guest experience without losing our Durham soul.
“The response to the new bedrooms has been fantastic; they’ve helped us attract more bookings and deliver even greater comfort.
“It shows there’s an appetite for well-designed, thoughtful accommodation in Durham.”
Stuart added interest in the venue’s Jozef’s bar and restaurant – launched during the initial phase of the investment – is also enjoying higher demand.
He added: “We’re proud to have modernised our spaces, but it’s the people and the place that make Radisson Blu Durham truly special.
“That will never change.”
