Chamber boss shortlisted for national accolade

A business support organisation boss has been shortlisted for a national award.

Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber chief executive Carrie Sudbury is a finalist in the British Chamber of Commerce’s President’s Award.

The honour recognises the efforts of individuals “who have gone above and beyond the call of duty during the past 12 months”.

Carrie was nominated by peers for work including a project alongside Rotherham Council to boost local authority supply chain support.

She also chairs Barnsley’s Inclusive Economy Board, which helps businesses overcome skills shortages and works with education providers to meet industry needs.

Carrie said: “When I became chief executive, my priority was to create an environment where businesses across the region could truly prosper.

“I feel incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved over the past 12 months. 

“Being shortlisted for the award is a tremendous honour, and couldn’t have been possible without the support and dedication of the entire chamber staff.”

Carrie joins Elspeth Stewart, British Chamber of Commerce in Korea empower programme director/BCCK executive committee advisor; Eileen Perry, East Midlands Chamber of Commerce non-executive director; Phil Smith, Business West managing director; John Brown, Cornwall Chamber of Commerce chief executive; and Katy Holmes, British Chamber of Commerce Dubai chief executive, on the award shortlist.

The winner will be announced in late October.
