Historic picture house set to go under hammer
An historic cinema is set to go under the hammer.
Keighley Picture House has been put up for sale with a £110,000 guide price.
Opened during cinema’s golden age, the 112-year-old venue has screened silent films, wartime newsreels and blockbuster productions.
It also played host to live performances from music stars including Billy Fury and Marty Wilde.
Property consultancy Eddisons says the two-screen, 400-seat building, which stands close to Keighley town centre, is being sold with a passing rent of £12,000 per year.
It adds the venue’s tenant is holding over after the lease expired in 2021, creating potential for a new custodian to increase rental income or redevelop the site.
Will Thompson, director at auctioneer Pugh, which operates within Eddisons’ portfolio, said: “Opportunities to acquire such a well-known and historically significant property are rare.
“The Picture House is woven into the fabric of Keighley life.
“From an investment perspective, it’s a solid asset with immediate income and clear scope for growth, whether through rent review or future redevelopment.”
The picture house will go under the hammer on August 27.
