Programme aims to boost female founders' progress
A scheme aimed at backing North East female founders is set to be unveiled.
Lifted Ventures and the National Innovation Centre for Ageing’s Internet of Caring Things programme have joined forces to announce the launch of Athena Labs’ Growth and Funding Programme.
Bosses say it has been “designed exclusively for women building innovation-led businesses that help people live better lives”.
Supported by British Business Bank, the North East Combined Authority and Newcastle University, the programme aims to help North East female founders refine business models, build investor readiness and access growth capital.
A launch event will take place on Thursday, September 25, from 11am until 1pm, at The Catalyst, on Newcastle Helix.
Jordan Dargue, Lifted Ventures’ co-founder, said: “The Athena programme gives talented women of the North East the visibility and early funding advice they need to thrive.
“By equipping female founders with the right support from the very start, we can accelerate growth, champion innovation and inspire the next generation of North East female entrepreneurs.”
Dr Jennine Jonczyk, Internet of Caring Things programme lead at the National Innovation Centre for Ageing, said: “We are proud to support this vital programme for female-led innovation.
“We believe the future of everyone’s health depends on new ideas, diverse perspectives and the opportunity for those ideas to flourish.”
Kim McGuinness, North East mayor, added: “I've had the privilege of meeting so many inspiring female entrepreneurs and business owners across our region.
“Programmes like this are absolutely vital in providing those female founders with the support, resources and networks they deserve.
“I encourage all female entrepreneurs to seize this opportunity and be part of our region's bright future.
“When our women succeed, our entire region flourishes.”
