RWO to support college redevelopment
A Newcastle-based civil and structural engineering firm is set to support a multi-million-pound college redevelopment.
RWO has been appointed to deliver a package of services for South Tyneside College as part of a £95 million campus transformation.
Principal contractor Castle is overseeing the project, which includes a new main building, student accommodation and refurbishment of a listed property.
The redevelopment will move South Tyneside College and South Shields Marine School (part of Tyne Coast College) from Westoe to a town centre location.
Accessed from King Street, the 15,000sq metre main building will feature a double-height glass atrium, with a secondary entrance along Barrington Street linking the building to the main campus.
A refurbished Grade II-listed building on Barrington Street will house parts of the marine school, while additional facilities will include a teaching hair salon, café and marine simulators.
Bosses say RWO will play a key role in designing and supporting the transformation to meet modern education standards.
Ross Oakley, managing director, said: “South Tyneside College is another prestigious contract for us.
“It builds on our previous successes with projects right across the North East and wider national landscape, showcasing our engineering capabilities together with the skills and expertise available in the region to support major investments and detailed design work.”
