Children's charity delight at £500,000 windfall
A charity has secured a £500,000 windfall.
Wallsend Children’s Community has been backed by the National Lottery Community Fund.
Bosses say the cash will support a five-year project aimed at bringing schools and families closer together.
Co-designed with parents and carers, they add the endeavour will “create a real sense of belonging and shared purpose”, and “make a huge difference” to more than 11,500 children across 17 schools.
Paula McCormack, Wallsend Children’s Community chief executive, said: “Wallsend has a strong tradition of working together.
“Schools have been meeting every term for over a decade to help children, and the Wallsend Children's Community has been teaming up with local parents for the past six years.
“This fund will help us create a network for parents, bringing the skills, knowledge and care of parents and schools together.”
Duncan Nicholson, National Lottery Community Fund head of regional funding, added: “We are delighted to be able to support the work of Wallsend Children’s Community and help give youngsters the opportunity to thrive and achieve their potential.”
