Lumo teams up with Stevenage FC
A Hertfordshire football club has welcomed on board a new training wear partner.
Stevenage Football Club has announced Newcastle-headquartered rail operator Lumo as its official Under 18s training wear partner for the 2025/26 season.
The partnership will see the Lumo logo featured on the front of the club’s Under 18s training shirts, highlighting the company’s support for youth sport.
Lumo, which runs services along the East Coast Main Line connecting Stevenage with destinations including London, Newcastle, Morpeth, and Edinburgh, is expanding its presence in the area.
From December, Monday-to-Saturday services stopping at Stevenage will double, with four additional trains on Sundays.
The operator will also introduce direct routes from Stevenage to Falkirk and Glasgow, offering low fares and a more sustainable travel option.
Bosses say the partnership aligns with both organisations’ focus on nurturing young talent, with Stevenage FC developing the next generation of footballers, while Lumo continues to invest in future rail talent, with 95 per cent of its team recruited through an apprenticeship programme in 2024.
Jen Clare, service delivery director at Lumo, said: “We’re very excited to see Lumo proudly on display on the training shirts of Stevenage FC’s talented Under 18s team.
“The club is nurturing the best new talent in the area and providing some amazing opportunities, so we’re really pleased to be their latest signing!
“Supporting the communities that we provide with affordable and sustainable travel every day is very important to us, and I’d like to wish the club plenty of success in the new season.
“I’m sure the atmosphere, just like our trains, is going to be electric at all of their games!”
David Hoskins, head of commercial at Stevenage FC, added: “This is an exciting new partnership for our academy and we’re delighted to see the prominent Lumo branding on both the under 18s training shirts and also around our stadium.”
Adrian Hawkins OBE, chair of the Stevenage Development Board, added: “As someone that regularly travels to Edinburgh, the Lumo train service and the four-hour travel time is a fabulous facility to use.
“The Stevenage Development Board is working to deliver a new Station Gateway within the town for the millions of journeys taking place each year and it is a delight that our volumes are recognised by Lumo as the next stop from London to Newcastle and Scotland.
“It is truly wonderful that our service providers are also supporting Stevenage FC and that we are all focused on delivering support and facilities for the future generations of our wonderful town.”
The collaboration adds to Lumo’s ongoing community engagement, following recent support for local initiatives including Newcastle Pride and Newcastle Eagles basketball club.
