Airport gallops ahead with record cargo figures
An airport has welcomed some unusual cargo as it continues to post record-breaking figures.
Teesside International Airport handled eight thoroughbred racehorses this week as part of preparations for the 2025 Ebor Festival at York Racecourse.
Among them were Minnie Hauk – which later returned as a race winner – and Garden of Eden.
The airport’s Border Control Point cargo service is known for rapid turnaround, with consignments processed in as little as 30 minutes after touchdown.
Its flexible facilities have become trusted for last-minute and time-sensitive deliveries, even those arriving on the hoof!
With volumes already more than 200 per cent ahead of last year, the airport’s cargo operation is on course for its strongest year to date.
Phil Forster, managing director of Teesside International Airport, said: “The strength of our cargo facility is its ability to handle all sorts of orders, consignments and requests at short notice – and it’s been great to welcome these brilliant horses through our airport.
“Our fantastic team acted quickly to ensure they disembarked safely and got them on the road to York, and back to their home stables.
“We’re building our reputation in cargo – the airport has onward road and rail connections to envy, and our strengths really do mean our hub is an invaluable option for 70,000 businesses within an hour of our runway.
“I’d urge firms to consider us and get in touch.”
