Storplan names new general manager
York-based specialist fabrication business Storplan has appointed a new general manager to drive growth following its acquisition by leading offsite manufacturer Thurston Group.
Steve Smith brings extensive experience in large-scale logistics and warehouse operations, most recently overseeing a 500-strong workforce at a national distribution firm and supporting revenues of around £500 million.
He will lead Storplan’s 20-strong York team, working alongside Dan Pollard, Thurston Group’s production director.
Steve will focus on boosting EBITDA by maximising opportunities across the racking and mezzanine side of the business and helping customers optimise warehouse space amid rising capacity costs.
He said: “We have ambitious growth targets to hit, and my role will be focused on leading the Storplan team in delivering on these and driving the business forward.
“I'll be getting stuck in and working closely with Thurston Group managing director Matt Goff and production director Dan Pollard, alongside the wider team to help Storplan reach its enormous growth potential and contribute to the overall Group’s success and vision.”
Established in 2000, Storplan is a specialist fabricator and supplier of mezzanine floors, racking and partitioning for retail and industrial storage.
The company was acquired earlier this year by Wakefield-headquartered Thurston Group, one of the UK’s largest modular building manufacturers.
Dan added: “With Steve’s energy and expertise in the mix, there are exciting times ahead for Storplan.
“I’m confident we’ll continue to drive real progress, innovation and positive change as we embrace new opportunities in the distribution and logistics sector.”
