Industry body in gear to deliver skills plan
An industry cluster organisation is in gear to drive forward skills provision.
The North East Automotive Alliance has been appointed the designated employer representative body for the new North East Local Skills Improvement Plan (NELSIP).
Officials say the NELSIP will “ensure local skills provision is better aligned with employer needs”.
They add the North East Automotive Alliance will work with the North East Combined Authority, employers, learning providers and employer representative bodies to “tackle skill shortages, strengthen workforce development and reinforce the region as a hub for innovation and excellence”.
It will cover sectors including advanced manufacturing, construction, creative, digital, life sciences, renewables, space and technology.
The appointment comes after the North East Automotive Alliance led the delivery of a previous NELSIP across County Durham, Sunderland, Gateshead and South Tyneside, which it says supported more than 500,000 people.
Paul Butler, North East Automotive Alliance chief executive, said: “Skills are at the heart of sustainable growth, and this appointment reflects our commitment to ensuring local people have the right training and opportunities to thrive in the industries of the future.
“By working with the North East Combined Authority, employers, education providers, other employer representative bodies and the Government, we will help to build a stronger, more resilient regional economy.”
The North East Chamber of Commerce will continue to lead a plan in Tees Valley.
