Mortal Fools secures six-figure funding boost
A North East charity is set to expand mental health and wellbeing support for young people.
Award-winning creative learning organisation Mortal Fools has secured £215,000 from Kavli Trust, the foundation of the multinational behind Primula cheese.
The funding will support three key projects benefiting children and young people across the North East and beyond.
Firstly, the investment will enhance Mortal Fools’ MELVA Digital programme, a creative initiative teaching key stage 2 children mental health knowledge and self-management through multimedia storytelling.
New resources will extend the programme to key stage 1, as well as introduce an illustrated novel for 2025-26 and broaden its regional reach.
Additional funding will develop the charity’s Wellbeing Practice Guide & Evaluation Toolkit into an online digital programme based on the PERMA™ Framework, enabling schools and youth settings to plan, monitor, and measure wellbeing outcomes.
The grant will also support Mortal Fools’ wider creative health initiatives, including co-created interventions in schools designed to prevent absenteeism and ease transitions, further cementing the charity’s role in pioneering innovative approaches to children’s mental health.
Kiz Crosbie, artistic director and chief executive of Mortal Fools, said: “We continue to be deeply grateful for Kavli Trust’s ongoing commitment to our work.
“The team really take the time to get to know the organisations, the people and the projects they support, and together we can bring about enormously positive outcomes for the children and young people involved.
“We look forward to many more years of fruitful collaboration with them.”
