Engineering firm secures Ukrainian defence deal
An engineer has agreed a Ukrainian defence firm deal.
Pearson Engineering has signed a memorandum of understanding with Ukrainska Bavovna.
Officials say the partnership will develop repair and maintenance system services already delivered to the eastern European country.
They add it will explore production of Pearson Engineering’s equipment in Ukraine to help “restore land for domestic and agricultural purposes.”
The agreement with defence system integration firm Ukrainska Bavovna – which provides organisational support to Ukraine’s military – builds on the Newcastle-based company’s supply of mine clearing equipment to the war-torn country.
Ian Bell, Pearson Engineering group chief executive, said: “Our technology delivers groundbreaking opportunities, both on the battlefield and in restoring post-conflict terrain to safety.
“This agreement works in the interests of a safer and more secure environment for the people of Ukraine in future.”
A Ukrainska Bavovna spokesperson added: “Ukraine is now the most heavily mined country in the world, and we need the mobility support that Pearson Engineering’s equipment provides.”
The agreement follows Pearson Engineering’s unveiling of £3 million plans to create at least 20 jobs at its Armstrong Works site and add artificial intelligence laboratories to “drive forward innovations for the future of the battlefield”.
