Partners unite to revamp community centre
A civic hub has reopened following major refurbishment.
Parkfield Community Centre has undergone a significant renovation.
Work included a kitchen makeover and new flooring, with the base now boasting a hall, meeting and office space, a small patio and a garden area.
The centre, in Stockton, is overseen by Bizi Studios and provides a home for youth clubs, sewing classes, cooking courses and storytelling sessions.
The refurbishment was carried out through a collaboration between Bizi Studios, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, Thirteen Group and Bowburn-headquartered Esh Construction.
The latter donated £9272, which helped purchase a range cooker, fridge freezer, cabinets and fittings, and kitchen, corridor, toilets and main hall flooring.
Jane Bizimana, who runs Bizi Studios and helps manage the centre, said: “It has been a while since the building had new life, but we are keen to provide a place for the whole community.”
Councillor Norma Stephenson, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council cabinet member for access, communities and community safety, said: “It's fantastic to see the centre transformed into a welcoming space that can make a meaningful, positive difference to local people.”
Aley Wright, Esh Construction social value co-ordinator, said: “We believe construction should leave a lasting legacy beyond bricks and mortar.
“Supporting the refurbishment of Parkfield Community Centre reflects our commitment to creating thriving communities through meaningful investment.”
Angela Corner, Thirteen Group head of regeneration and communities, added: “We’re always looking to connect our contractors with opportunities to do great things in our communities, so we were delighted to secure the donation from Esh Construction.”
