Training hub investment sparks green careers
A South Tyneside training provider is helping engineers transition into the renewables sector with the launch of a new facility.
Future Group Renewable Training (FGRT), part of the expanding Future Group, has opened a £200,000 centre on the Rekendyke Industrial Estate, in South Shields.
Bosses say it is the only BPEC-approved training hub of its kind in the North East, designed to fast-track heating engineers into clean energy roles.
They add the centre delivers intensive three-day accredited courses in air source heat pump and solar photovoltaic installation, with full post-training support to help engineers future-proof their careers.
Managing director Sean Langston said: “What we are doing here is unique.
“We don’t just train engineers, we give them full end-to-end support after they qualify.
“That includes help with surveys, project design, product supply and aftercare.
“No other company in the country offers this level of ongoing backing.
“For those used to working with oil and gas, renewables can seem daunting, but we make the transition simple and affordable.
“The demand for these skills is growing fast and those who act now will be best placed to benefit from higher earnings and more job opportunities.”
Since opening in July, FGRT has already trained 60 engineers, with demand expected to rise as the UK moves towards net-zero and prepares for the ban on gas boilers in new homes from 2027.
