Airport set for busiest winter schedule in 17 years
A North East airport is preparing for its busiest winter season in nearly two decades as it expands routes and builds on strong passenger growth.
Teesside International Airport will see its fullest schedule since 2008, with Ryanair’s year-round flights to Malaga now part of its winter offering.
Meanwhile, daily KLM services to Amsterdam and the popular Alicante connection will continue, with seasonal charters to Lapland also remaining available for winter 2025/26.
Latest figures show passenger numbers are on track to beat 2024 levels by six per cent, with Alicante, Malaga and Amsterdam proving the top performers, alongside TUI’s Majorca route.
The airport has also retained its “Very Good” accessibility rating from the Civil Aviation Authority for the second consecutive year.
Phil Forster, Teesside Airport managing director, said: “It’s great to see we’re heading in the right direction.
“With Malaga and Alicante back on year-round schedules and KLM holding firm in Amsterdam with its worldwide links, we’re giving people choice and convenience – and a top-quality service from our brilliant team.
“Passenger growth of six per cent is also a testament to our team’s drive and determination.
“We’ve plenty of work ahead – but it’s great to see lots of development on the airport site and passenger numbers on a steady increase.”
Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen added: “This winter schedule is unlocking Teesside Airport’s potential for our region.
“It was a real pleasure to deliver on my pledge to bring Malaga’s route to Teesside – it’s been a big hit, which is why it’s running year-round.
“We want more sun, more routes, more reasons for people to fly from Teesside.
“More than that, we’re building momentum – and the figures year-on-year show our airport is building a solid base.
“This airport was on the brink of closure in not-too-distant past – we saved it.
“It’s great to see just how far we’ve come, and the road ahead for the people’s airport is bright.”
