Alfanar makes £2 billion aviation fuel plant pledge
A £2 billion aviation fuel plant has moved a step closer, according to a regeneration boss.
Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen says Alfanar has “confirmed its commitment” to create a Teesside plant.
Bosses say the venture will support more than 2000 construction jobs and create 240 full-time posts when operational.
Known as the Lighthouse Green Fuels development, they add the scheme will annually convert more than 1.5 million tonnes of biomass waste into 180 million litres of aviation fuel – enough for 2500 long-haul flights a year.
Mayor Houchen, who this week met Alfanar’s Saudi bosses in the country’s capital Riyadh, said: “It is outstanding news Alfanar has committed to delivering this project on Teesside.
“Developments such as Lighthouse Green Fuels put our region at the forefront of a growing industry, which is primed for massive expansion and will deliver thousands of jobs and billions of pounds in investment in coming years.”
