TfN chair set to step down
A senior transport leader is preparing to step down after more than four years in the role.
Former cabinet minister Lord Patrick McLoughlin will chair his final Transport for the North (TfN) Board meeting in Darlington on September 15, before stepping back from his role as chair this autumn.
During his tenure, Lord McLoughlin has worked with political leaders to shape TfN’s second Strategic Transport Plan, as well as advocating for stronger investment in rail and opposing proposals to close station ticket offices.
The Darlington meeting coincides with the 200th anniversary of the Stockton to Darlington railway, with regional mayors and council leaders set to discuss growth priorities, rail services and freight opportunities.
Martin Tugwell, chief executive of TfN, said: “I know political leaders and partners from across the North will join me in thanking Lord McLoughlin for his service to the Board.
“His insight and experience, including as a former Transport Secretary, has helped guide our Board and the TfN team over the last few years in working together to secure investment in the North’s transport system.”
Plans for Lord McLoughlin’s successor are expected to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
