Local gym punches above its weight

A North East fitness club is celebrating national recognition after being named a finalist in an industry awards programme.

Laings Box Fit Gym, in Ponteland, has been shortlisted in the Regional Gym of the Year North category at the National Fitness Awards.

The annual awards highlight excellence across the UK, with finalists ranging from Aberdeen to Devon.

Kevin Laing, head coach at Laings, said: “We are thrilled to be shortlisted and we will continue to work extremely hard and aim towards winning this award.

“We offer boxing fitness classes and sessions as well as the many benefits of boxing to young boxers, juniors and adults from 6.00am until 8.30pm so we are well on our way to achieving so much and this award would simply top off a great year for everyone involved.”

Organised by Script Events alongside fitness magazine Workout and supported by ServiceSport, the awards spotlight gyms delivering outstanding facilities and member experiences.

Up to nine finalists have been chosen in each category, with the next stage seeing clubs visited by judges who will assess services, facilities and community impact.

Winners will be announced at a ceremony hosted by presenter Natalie Sawyer on Friday, November 28 at The Athena, in Leicester.

Laings Box Fit Gym will compete against some of the country’s best-known names as it looks to bring the title home.

Dominic Musgrave, event director at the National Fitness Awards, added: “The National Fitness Awards are now in their 15th year and with more entries than ever before, our finalists really have reason to celebrate too as it’s a huge achievement to have made the shortlist and is testament to the teams behind each.”
