Marine Chandlery nets Powerhouse deal
A North East marine supplier is expanding its operations and reach.
Marine Chandlery, based at the Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate, in North Shields, has acquired Powerhouse Marine Ltd, marking another key step in its “remarkable growth”.
The company was founded in early 2024 following its acquisition of Storrar Marine and has quickly established itself as a go-to destination for both boating enthusiasts and industry professionals.
Powerhouse Marine, which has served the Blaydon area since 1987, specialised in marine engine sales, servicing and repairs, as well as leisure boat parts, jet skis, kayaks and trailers.
Its dedicated showroom at Derwenthaugh Marina also provided a hub for testing and servicing for decades.
Following the takeover, Powerhouse Marine’s team, tools and expertise have moved to Marine Chandlery’s North Shields site, consolidating operations under one roof.
The deal follows the recent purchase of Brixham-based Bayside Marine and positions Marine Chandlery as a leading marine supplier in the North East, combining decades of knowledge with enhanced customer service and digital accessibility.
Geoff Moore, owner and managing director of Marine Chandlery, said: “Marine Chandlery has achieved remarkable growth in a short time, focusing on in-store and e-commerce sales of a wide variety of marine products, and establishing our servicing department.
“With the acquisition of Powerhouse Marine, we are determined to expand our service offering, and to carry forward their long-standing tradition of excellence and continue serving the maritime community in the North East and beyond for decades to come.”
Mike Newbold, owner of Powerhouse Marine Ltd, added “I’m thrilled that the business is going to another local marine business, and I am sure they will have as much success as I have had over the years.
“I know that the Marine Chandlery team will look after our loyal customers, and I look forward to becoming a customer myself for parts and servicing of my own boat.”
