Entrepreneur pedals into mobility market
A Yorkshire-based tricycle business is breaking new ground in the mobility sector.
Jorvik Tricycles, led by entrepreneur James Walker, has launched the Jorvik Freedom, a three-in-one tricycle that combines elements of a recumbent tricycle, electric bike and mobility scooter.
Designed for stability, support and versatility, the hybrid model features 16-inch tyres, two air springs and a rear-drive Bafang motor.
It is available in black and green with a 48-volt battery, suitable for both on and off-road cycling.
James says the Jorvik Freedom, priced at £4449 and disability VAT exempt, fills a gap in the market by offering an alternative to traditional mobility scooters for those seeking additional support without stigma.
He said: “Our new Jorvik Freedom model has been designed with our customer feedback in mind.
“Whilst the business has grown over the last ten years, so has our knowledge of the industry.
“We recognised a trend in the number of customers looking for more supportive options and particularly those who weren't ready to forgo the style and ease of a tricycle for a mobility scooter.
“Unlike anything else on the market, Jorvik Freedom offers enhanced balance and stability due to its low centre of gravity; an ideal option for those looking for a bit more support.”
Founded in 2014, Jorvik Tricycles now reports annual revenue of around £6 million and recently added a bespoke tricycle de-restriction service to enhance accessibility.
