OnPath powers ahead with solar energy site
A Sunderland-headquartered renewable energy firm is making progress with a new solar energy project in South Yorkshire.
OnPath Energy is developing the Common Farm Solar Park, near Dinnington, which will generate enough green electricity to power around 18,800 homes.
The site will feature up to 49.9MW of installed capacity alongside a 50MW battery storage facility connecting to the Thurcroft sub-station to improve grid efficiency and energy security.
Work on a new site entrance has been completed by Cheetham Hill Construction, under supervision from lead consultant AECOM, with full construction due to start later this autumn.
Martin Kellerman, construction director at OnPath Energy, which was acquired by Brookfield Asset Management in December 2023, said: “Preparations for the start of construction work at the Common Farm Solar Park have been progressing well and completion of the site access to the site is a key milestone for us.
“This project will bring a wide range of direct environmental, energy security, economic and community benefits to the local area, and will further increase the contribution that OnPath Energy is making towards helping the UK meet its crucial net-zero targets.”
The project, which is expected to be completed in mid-2027, will provide opportunities for regional subcontractors and suppliers and includes a detailed biodiversity strategy, including planting wildflower meadows, hedgerows and oak trees to benefit local habitats.
Common Farm is one of two solar energy projects under development in Yorkshire by OnPath Energy, with the other being the Barnsdale Solar Energy Park, located east of Leeds.
