Jurgen Klopp’s Padel FC serves up new Liverpool centre
A new sports facility is set to boost community and recreational opportunities in Liverpool.
Padel FC has submitted plans for a “landmark” Padel Tennis centre at Wavertree Sports Park, following a successful tender to acquire the site from Liverpool City Council.
The development will replace underused tennis courts with a modern, sustainable venue featuring nine padel courts – six indoors and three sheltered open-to-outdoor – alongside a café, retail space, changing rooms and social areas.
Designed by Octo Architects, the centre will also incorporate solar panels, air source heating and EV charging points, supporting Liverpool’s net-zero ambitions.
It will be the first UK development for Padel FC, founded by former Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp and his son Marc, who have already delivered successful community-focused venues in Berlin.
The project is supported by retired footballer Bradley Orr, media consultant Mike Smith and local businessman Carl Spellman, with a focus on inclusivity and accessibility for all.
Community consultation played a key role in shaping the plans, with 98 per cent of respondents backing the scheme.
The project also demonstrates wider social and economic benefits, including job creation, training opportunities and improved community health and wellbeing, supported by detailed assessments prepared by Pegasus Group.
Darren Muir, director at Pegasus Group, said: “We have really enjoyed working with Padel FC to bring one of Europe’s fastest-growing sports to Liverpool.
“From advising on the tender process, to leading the pre-application engagement and preparation of the planning submission, it has been rewarding to help shape a scheme that makes efficient use of underutilised land while delivering genuine social, economic and environmental benefits for the city.”
If approved, the Padel FC Liverpool facility will open seven days a week and provide a year-round, all-weather sporting destination for players of all ages and abilities.
