Orchestra returns to Newcastle Cathedral
Orchestra North East will return to Newcastle Cathedral next Saturday (October 11) at 7pm for a concert featuring Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.3 and Bruckner’s Symphony No.6.
The event promises to showcase the talents of local and international musicians in one of the North East’s most historic and welcoming performance spaces.
Conductor Tim Burke, who has an extensive background with leading UK opera and orchestral institutions, will lead the evening.
Newcastle-based Tim, who studied music at Exeter College, Oxford, and trained as a repetiteur at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, has conducted performances for the Royal Northern Sinfonia, Scottish Opera, Welsh National Opera and the Royal Ballet.
He also serves as chorus director for the Royal Northern Sinfonia Chorus and choir director for St Gabriel’s Church, in Heaton.
The Orchestra North East first collaborated with Tim earlier this year during a rehearsal session, and he will conduct the evening’s performance of Bruckner’s Symphony No.6.
The concert will also feature pianist Khrystyna Mykhailichenko, pictured below, as soloist.
Since moving to the UK in 2022 from the Ukraine and settling in Corbridge, Northumberland, Khrystyna has quickly established herself as a rising talent, performing with orchestras across Europe and North America, as well as giving over 40 recitals in the UK.
She is currently studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London on a four-year scholarship and has previously performed with Orchestra North East in memorable renditions of Rachmaninov and Brahms.
