Sheffield hotel makes signature return
A Sheffield hotel has reopened its doors after a striking transformation.
Sandman Signature Sheffield Quays Hotel has rebranded and relaunched following an 18-month renovation of the former Best Western Plus at Victoria Quays.
The project forms part of Canadian owner Northland Properties’ investment in its UK portfolio, having purchased the three-acre site in 2022.
All 128 bedrooms have been fully refurbished, alongside upgraded meeting and event spaces.
The bar and restaurant have also moved to ground level, taking over restored Grade II-listed arches beneath the six-storey building.
A new dining concept, Tavern on The Quays, opened in September, offering a contemporary take on the classic pub with room for 90 diners and private dining spaces for 40 guests.
Further work continues on the ballroom, outdoor terrace and spa facilities, including a refreshed fitness suite and upgraded pool and sauna.
By 2026, the hotel will feature 160 bedrooms with new suites, kitchenettes and balconies.
Kelly Murray, regional director for the Sandman Hotel Group, said: “Whilst we have been successfully operating the hotel for over three years, it’s fantastic to now be able to show off the full rebrand to Sandman Signature Sheffield Quays Hotel.
“We’ve been working hard to make improvements which will hugely improve the experience for our guests.
“The bedroom renovations, the leisure facility improvements and the newly designed event spaces all help to create a modern, calm and tranquil place to enjoy a visit whether it’s for business or pleasure.
“The introduction of Tavern on the Quays, and the relocation of the dining and bar area to underneath the historic arches, has made a huge difference, creating a really stylish and welcoming atmosphere and allowing non-residents to more easily enjoy the facilities too.”
Originally opened in the 1990s as part of the Stakis Hotels group, the property has since operated under several brands before its latest evolution under the Sandman Signature name.
It joins five other UK and Ireland sites in the group’s portfolio and employs 80 staff.
