Business owner scoops double recognition

Kathryn Meadows, owner of Whitley Bay’s Nicholsons Butchers, has been shortlisted for two major business awards recognising her contribution to local enterprise.

Kathryn is a finalist in the Heart of the Business category at the North Tyneside Business Awards, which celebrate individuals and organisations making a tangible difference to the borough’s business community.

The ceremony takes place on November 20 at The Village Hotel in Newcastle.

In addition, she has been shortlisted in the Inspiring Woman in Business – Small Business category at the North East Chamber of Commerce Inspiring Women in Business Awards, which honour women breaking barriers and driving success across the region.

The winners will be revealed on November 28 at Newcastle Civic Centre during a lunch and drinks reception.

Nicholsons Butchers, a family-run business that has been part of the Whitley Bay community since 1914, has flourished under Kathryn’s leadership.

Now in its fourth generation, the shop blends traditional butchery skills with a modern approach, championing local suppliers and creating award-winning products.

The butchers recently launched a new website, including a new loyalty scheme.

Kathryn said: “It’s a huge honour to be recognised in both of these awards, especially alongside so many inspiring people and businesses.

“Nicholsons has always been about community, quality and teamwork, so this is very much a reflection of the passion and hard work of our whole team.

“To be shortlisted twice in one month is just incredible.”
