Developer plots £250 million business hub plan
A developer has unveiled £250 million plans to create a 4500-job business park.
Citrus Durham hopes to build a 3.2 million sq ft hub near Bowburn, in County Durham.
Bosses say the proposed extension – close to junction 61 of the A1(M) – would create and support 4500 posts during construction and operation, and generate up to £170 million annual economic output.
The venture would stand alongside an Amazon distribution warehouse and the existing Integra 61 scheme, which includes business units, food outlets, a 73-bed care home and more than 250 houses.
A planning application is expected to be submitted to Durham County Council later this year.
James Taylor, Citrus’ regional director and group head of planning, said: “Integra 61 has proven to be a ground-breaking development for the North East, making a significant contribution to the region’s economy.
“Due to the success of the first phase, the next logical step is to utilise adjacent land, which has been safeguarded by Durham County Council for employment use, to enable businesses to invest and grow.”
