OFR embraces employee ownership model

A fire engineering consultancy is shifting ownership to benefit its staff.

Manchester-headquartered OFR Consultants has transitioned to an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) model, with the trust acquiring a controlling stake in the business.

The company, which also has bases in London, Leeds, Bath, Bristol, Oxford, Edinburgh and Glasgow, will continue to operate its Enterprise Management Incentive (EMI) share option scheme, allowing employees to benefit both collectively and individually from the firm’s growth.

Bosses say the move reinforces OFR’s long-term independence while empowering colleagues and embedding a culture of shared success.

They add that every employee is now a beneficiary of the trust, with their interests represented on the trust’s board, giving staff a greater voice in business decisions alongside individual recognition through the EMI scheme.

Sam Liptrott, founder of OFR Consultants, said: “Evolving into a partly owned EOT secures the best path forward for shareholders and staff.

“It safeguards our entrepreneurial spirit, guarantees independence, and ensures we keep delivering outstanding projects while leading the fire engineering discipline.”

Antonela Čolić, a graduate fire engineer, added: “The new model offers employees the chance to share in the company’s growth and rewards and supports OFRs intention to inclusivity in every aspect.

“As a young professional, this change gives me freedom to learn without the need to aim for an executive position to enjoy meaningful rewards.

“It’s a structure that values and rewards technical contribution and expertise, without needing to step into CEO or managerial roles and just climbing the ladder.”
