Initiative unites producers, makers and food lovers

A new initiative celebrating Northumberland’s local food, drink and hospitality is being launched this autumn.

Taste of Northumberland, created in partnership between Northumberland County Council and Food and Drink North East (FADNE), unites local producers, retailers, hospitality venues and food lovers under a recognisable brand championing quality, provenance and diversity.

The programme allows businesses to showcase their products, access new markets and benefit from marketing, collaboration and business support opportunities across the county.

To qualify, members must demonstrate authentic local sourcing and production while meeting recognised food quality standards.

Those approved can display the Taste of Northumberland logo, signalling genuine ingredients, artisan skill and trusted supply chains on labels, menus and promotional materials.

Members will also gain access to expert advice, training, networking and promotional campaigns designed to boost growth and foster connections within the county’s food and drink community.

Chris Jewitt, chief executive of FADNE, said: “We’re proud to be partnering with Northumberland County Council to bring new energy and opportunity to Taste of Northumberland.

“The county is home to some of the most talented and passionate producers in the UK.

“This relaunch is about shining a light on their work, creating stronger connections between local businesses, and putting Northumberland firmly on the map as a leader in food, drink and hospitality.”

The scheme was officially unveiled during FADNE’s Room With A View event, which explored authenticity, provenance and Northumberland’s culinary identity.

Panellists included Si King of The Hairy Bikers, councillor Richard Wearmouth, deputy leader of Northumberland County Council, along with local food entrepreneurs.

Councillor Wearmouth added: “Taste of Northumberland stands for quality, authenticity and local pride.

“By working with FADNE, we’re ensuring the scheme evolves with the industry, offering producers and hospitality businesses the recognition, support, and visibility they deserve.

“This marks an exciting new chapter for local food and drink in our county.”
