Businesses shine bright at Sunderland showcase
A North East business event has celebrated another successful year, attracting more than 1000 attendees to a week of talks, workshops and networking sessions across Sunderland.
Sunderland Business Week, now in its fifth year, brought together entrepreneurs, industry leaders and innovators for a five-day programme from October 13 to 17.
The event featured headline speakers including Radio 1’s Jamie Laing, Olympic legend Colin Jackson and social media pioneer Alex Partridge, who were joined by North East mayor Kim McGuinness for a live Q&A at SunFest – the week’s flagship event where they shared insights and stories from their careers.

Organised by Sunderland Business Partnership, the initiative aims to spotlight the city’s ongoing transformation and strengthen collaboration between businesses of all sizes.
This year’s line-up included sessions on AI, emotional intelligence, marketing, business growth and Sunderland AFC’s rise to the Premier League, alongside live entertainment and music.
Sponsored by Sunderland City Council and a host of regional partners, including North East BIC, Ward Hadaway, Sunderland College, Gentoo, Procure Smart, Sheepfolds Stables, Richard Reed Solicitors, Sunderland BIDs, Sunderland AFC, New Results, Creo Comms, Stephen Elms and NatWest, the event once again highlighted Sunderland’s growing reputation as a dynamic hub for enterprise and innovation.
Councillor Kevin Johnston, portfolio holder for housing, regeneration and business for Sunderland City Council, added: “Sunderland Business Week really shone a spotlight on our transforming city to a business audience from across the region and showcased the many ways in which Sunderland is positively contributing to the regional and national economy too.
“It was a real celebration of Sunderland, business and entrepreneurialism.”
Rob Lawson OBE, chair of Sunderland Business Partnership, added: “We are delighted to have been able to deliver another successful Business Week in Sunderland, which showcased what a brilliant, dynamic place the city is for enterprise.
“There were so many inspirational talks, workshops and events during the week.
