Teesside energy projects gain delivery partner
Two North East energy projects have moved closer following the appointment of a key delivery partner.
Turner & Townsend has been appointed to lead project controls and commercial management for Net Zero Teesside Power (NZT Power) and the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP).
Part of the East Coast Cluster, the two projects aim to capture, transport and store carbon emissions from across Teesside and the Humber.
Over the four-year commission, Turner & Townsend will provide integrated support across performance, cost and assurance to improve delivery efficiency and reduce construction risks.
The appointment reinforces the firm’s expanding role in the energy and natural resources sector and its contribution to the UK’s net-zero transition.
Alan Sinclair, managing director, energy and natural resources at Turner & Townsend UK, said: “We’re proud to be trusted with the responsibility of delivering the highest standards of performance and assurance on one of the UK’s most ambitious decarbonisation projects.
“This appointment strengthens our portfolio in complex infrastructure delivery and supports the UK’s transition to net-zero.”
NZT Power is set to become the world’s first gas-fired power station with carbon capture, generating up to 742 megawatts of low-carbon electricity – enough to power more than one million homes.
Around two million tonnes of carbon dioxide will be captured each year and transported by NEP for secure storage beneath the North Sea, positioning Teesside as a key player in the UK’s industrial decarbonisation efforts.
