Scorton housing scheme gets underway
A North Yorkshire housing scheme is set to bring new homes to the local community.
Newcastle-headquartered Karbon, in partnership with Knaresborough-based Wharfedale Homes, have begun work on 32 new affordable homes in Scorton, less than five miles from Catterick.
The Bolton Road development will feature a mix of one-bed bungalows and two, three and four-bed family homes, providing both social rent and home ownership options.
Two bungalows and eight two-bed houses will be available for social rent, ten homes for shared ownership, and 12 for rent to buy, allowing residents to save for future homeownership.
Zoey Hawthorne, group director of development at Karbon Homes, said: “It’s great to see work getting underway on site.
“This is an exciting project which will bring much-needed new housing to this rural community.
“Limited investment in housing over the years means rural villages like Scorton often lack affordable options.
“We hope these new homes, designed to meet the needs of a diverse mix of residents, will help the community grow and continue to thrive.”
Matt Gibson, land and development director for Wharfedale Homes, added: “This development will deliver high-quality affordable homes for local people and we are excited to partner with Karbon on this project.
“It will play a small, locally important part in helping to achieve the ambitious targets for new affordable homes set by the Government.”
Part-funded through Homes England, the £8.5 million development is scheduled for completion in Spring 2027.
Once finished, the homes will be managed by Karbon’s Yorkshire subsidiary, 54North Homes.
