102-home scheme moves on with contractor boost
Work to transform an ex-leisure centre into a 100-plus-home scheme has moved a step forward.
Lewisham Council has appointed Higgins as preferred contractor to deliver the London-based Ladywell Park Gardens development.
Bosses say the 102-property venture will “address the borough’s urgent need for affordable housing”, with 47 social rent homes complemented by 55 shared ownership dwellings across four blocks.
They add the scheme – set on the footprint of the former Ladywell Leisure Centre – will include 11 wheelchair-accessible homes and environmental measures such as living roofs and sustainable drainage systems.
Work is expected to be completed by spring 2028.
Councillor James-J Walsh, Lewisham Council’s cabinet member for inclusive regeneration and planning, said: “This is what good local government looks like – not just words, but action to tackle the housing crisis.
“This development means 102 more Lewisham families will have the security, dignity and stability that everyone deserves.
“We’ve found in Higgins a partner that shares our values: a commitment to quality, sustainability and community.”
Declan Higgins, chief executive at Essex-based Higgins Group, added: “This development represents an important opportunity to provide much-needed housing, while working collaboratively with our partners and the local community.”
