Hull KR stars scrum down for store's grand opening

A supermarket chain has kicked off a vibrant new store opening in Hull, thanks to the help of some local rugby stars.

Asda has unveiled its latest stand-alone George concept store at Anlaby Retail Park, bringing modern retail design and an enhanced shopping experience to the city.

The launch, held on October 31, was celebrated with music, entertainment and appearances from Hull KR stars and 2025 treble winners Oliver Gildart, James Batchelor and Dean Hadley.

The new store features a spacious home department, partywear, nightwear, toys, gifts and the exclusive Erica Davies gifting collection.

Customers can browse festive decorations and seasonal must-haves, while streamlined self-serve options and the click & collect service make shopping quicker and more convenient.

Liz Evans, George managing director, said: “We’re extremely pleased with the success of the George Hull store opening and delighted to support the Hull KR Foundation as part of the celebrations.

“This launch marks an exciting milestone for the George brand, and we’re incredibly proud to see such a positive response from customers.

“The store’s expanded collections, inspiring collaborations and enhanced shopping experience have been really well received, and we look forward to building on this momentum in the months ahead.”

To mark the opening, Asda donated £3000 to the Hull KR Foundation, supporting sport, health, education and wellbeing initiatives in the local community.

Paul Hamnett, chief executive of Hull KR Foundation, added: “We’re delighted to have been part of the celebrations marking the opening of this new store for Hull.

“It was a fantastic event that brought together the local community, fans and players alike.

“We’re incredibly grateful to Asda and George for their generous donation to the Hull KR Foundation.

“Partnerships like this make a real difference to the communities we serve, supporting education, health and wellbeing across the region.”

The Hull outlet is the second George concept store following a successful pilot in Leeds in May.

Asda plans to open a further ten stores across the UK next year, expanding its non-food offering and modernising customer experience with fresh layouts, lifestyle ranges and celebrity collaborations.

The store is open Monday to Friday, 9am–8pm; Saturday 9am–7pm; and Sunday 11am–5pm.
