OpenWorks expands intelligence and autonomy team
Hi-tech product company OpenWorks Engineering, based in Stocksfield, Northumberland, has strengthened its senior management team with the appointment of computer vision expert Dr Oliver Hamilton, who joins from Intel as head of intelligence and autonomy.
Dr Hamilton will lead the development of advanced autonomous optics for security and defence, supported by Dr Brian Isaac-Medina, a specialist in AI detection models and 3D reconstruction.
The team will work alongside company founder Alex Wilkinson to advance OpenWorks’ capabilities in counter-uncrewed aerial systems (C-UAS) and air defence technology.
Their focus on collaboration with local universities will ensure the integration of cutting-edge research, while creating high-quality roles that retain top talent in the North East.
Dr Hamilton said: “Advances in AI are happening at an unprecedented pace; the real challenge is translating them into systems that are both fast and reliable under extreme conditions.
“At OpenWorks, we’re training AI models that don’t just perform in the lab, they’re engineered to deliver consistent results in the field, where resilience and precision are mission critical.”
Chris Down, chief executive at OpenWorks Engineering, said: “Investment in our intelligence and autonomy team demonstrates our commitment to developing world-leading technology in the field of vision autonomous optics that protects civilians and provides intelligence and tactical agility to defence and security forces.”
