Builder breaks ground on £29 million student hub
A builder has broken ground on a £29 million student accommodation scheme.
GMI Construction Group is working on a 261-bedroom Manchester-based flat and studio development.
Set to be completed in 2027, bosses say it will feature study spaces, lounges, a cinema, gym and wellbeing room.
They add it will include a nine-storey new build structure, designed by Stallan Brand Architects, which will incorporate brickwork and metal cladding, and a listed Georgian villa refurbishment.
Based on the city’s Moss Lane East, the development will stand close to the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University.
GMI Construction Group, which has offices in Stockton, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester, is working with developer Alumno on the scheme.
Anthony Judge, GMI Construction Group regional director, said: “We’ve built a strong and trusted relationship with Alumno over several years.
“Each project reinforces our shared commitment to quality, innovation and creating outstanding spaces for students.”
David Campbell, Alumno managing director, added: “Our development will improve the local area through sensitive and coherent design and planning.
“It will also provide an economic boost to local businesses while delivering much-needed accommodation for Manchester’s student population.”
