Family bed business still dreaming big

A North Wales furniture retailer is celebrating two decades in business after years of helping customers sleep soundly.

Colwyn Bay-based Perfect Dreams, founded in 2005 by Donna Daniel and her father John, has grown from a single shop into one of the region’s best-known names in beds and bedroom furniture.

The company now operates two outlets in Colwyn Bay and a thriving store in Llandudno, opened in 2014 to meet growing demand along the coast.

John, who has spent more than 50 years in the bed trade, remains actively involved in the business at nearly 80, still helping with deliveries and customer service.

Together, the family has built a loyal customer base across North Wales and beyond, with orders as far afield as Portugal and the Ascension Islands.

Donna said: “When I first started, I hadn’t a clue about selling beds, but you soon pick it up.

“Now we know every product inside out, so when someone walks in or calls up, we can help them straight away.

“That knowledge and personal touch are what customers value most.”

Donna added: “The secret to our success is no secret.

“Friendly staff, fair prices, and doing things properly.

“People just want a comfortable bed and to be treated with respect, and that’s always been our philosophy.”

Perfect Dreams has weathered major challenges over the years, from the 2008 financial crisis and Brexit to the pandemic, by staying adaptable and community focused.

Now into its third generation, Donna’s daughter Danielle has also joined the family venture.

After a career as airline cabin crew, Danielle returned to Perfect Dreams following the birth of her daughter – and Donna hopes the family tradition might one day continue.

“Maybe she’ll join us too one day,” she added.

“That would make four generations, and Dad would be over the moon to see that.”

The company continues to combine traditional service with online growth, all while supporting local initiatives such as The Hummingbird Project in Abergele, to which it donates a portion of profits from each bed sold.

Donna added: “We’re incredibly proud to be part of such a supportive community.

“Colwyn Bay and Llandudno are full of fantastic independent businesses.

“We’ve had amazing support from our customers over the last 20 years and we hope to help them sleep soundly for many more to come.”

After 20 years, it seems Perfect Dreams has no plans to hit the snooze button.
