Barnsley timber firm set to expand with new base

A South Yorkshire-based timber engineering company is expanding with a new facility.

Constructional Timber UK, the parent of Constructional Timber (Manufacturers) Limited, has acquired a 70,000sq ft industrial unit at Fall Bank Industrial Estate in Dodworth as part of its relocation and growth plans.

The former Truswell Haulage site will undergo a £200,000 refurbishment to include warehouse, maintenance and office space, and is expected to be ready by February 2026.

Bosses say the new premises will provide a larger operational base and further opportunities to support the firm’s growing portfolio of projects.

They add that the ten-acre site also offers potential for further development, subject to planning.

Martin Daws, owner of Constructional Timber UK, said: “What attracted us to the site was its size, location and proximity to the M1 motorway for distribution and connectivity purposes, as well as the potential on the site for further development.

“The ten-acre site gives us the ability to relocate our business to a bespoke factory designed for our ongoing needs in one location, but also the site offers potential for us to develop further accommodation.

“Constructional Timber UK has also just completed the acquisition of local joinery company Kirk and Cranston (K&C), who will be part of the CTUK group.

“The purchase of the new site will provide new opportunities for the development of K&C going forward.”

Founded in 1979 in Penistone, Constructional Timber employs 25 staff and specialises in designing, manufacturing and installing engineered timber frames, beams and fixtures.

The company handles projects nationwide for major construction firms such as Kier and Mace, as well as smaller contractors, universities, and leisure operators, with contracts worth up to £1.5 million.

Rebecca Schofield, partner at Knight Frank in Sheffield, acting for vendor Breck Holdings, added: “Constructional Timber saw the potential in the location of the site, just a mile away from the M1, but also how they could adapt and refurbish the building to suit their requirements.”

Andy Garnett, chief executive at Breck Holdings, added: “There is strong owner-occupier demand for quality industrial units across the North and since the previous rental occupier left the premises, we have experienced several enquiries to purchase the site.

“We would like to thank our advisers Knight Frank, Napthens and Christopher Dee, as well as Constructional Timber, who were responsive and engaged throughout the transaction, allowing us to complete this sale quickly and reinvest the funds in our industrial portfolio.”
