Deeley Group appoints first ESG coordinator
Midlands-based construction and development company Deeley Group has appointed Florence Bullwright as its first ESG coordinator following the success of an internship programme with WMG, University of Warwick.
Florence joined the company through WMG’s 12-week internship scheme, which supported Deeley’s goal to be operationally net-zero carbon by 2036.
Working alongside fellow intern Sanjana Neogi and WMG industry experts, Florence helped establish the company’s first Scope 3 emissions assessment and created a detailed carbon reduction roadmap.
Her appointment marks a key milestone in Deeley’s sustainability journey, as the firm explores renewable energy sources, biofuels and low-carbon technologies across its construction sites to further reduce emissions and strengthen its environmental performance.
Eleanor Deeley, joint managing director at Deeley Group, said: “This is a major step forward in our ambitious plans to be operational net-zero by 2036 and the work Florence and Sanjana have done sets the foundations for our future plans.
“Scope 3 emissions continue to be a challenge that many in the sector haven’t been able to tackle.
“We need to look at all three scopes to achieve our goals and this work supported through the WMG Internship Programme and has given some clear actions to carry forward.”
Deeksha Sampath, technology transfer engineer at WMG, added: “It’s been a privilege to supervise Florence and Sanjana on this project supporting Deeley in establishing their first round of Scope 3 emissions reporting.
“Their dedication and fresh perspectives as interns have been instrumental in shaping the project’s success.
“As we navigate the complexities of supply chain emissions, this exercise has offered valuable insights into how construction companies can achieve meaningful decarbonisation.
“It’s encouraging to see companies like Deeley taking a proactive role in driving sustainability across the industry, not just responding to legislation but leading by example.”
