Bernicia Foundation widens regional support
A North East charitable foundation is expanding its reach to help even more communities and organisations access vital funding.
The Bernicia Foundation, established by housing association Bernicia, has announced changes to its Inclusion Grant, which supports projects that promote social and economic inclusion across the region.
From November 17, all areas of the North East – including Northumberland, Tyneside, Wearside, County Durham and Teesside – will be classed as high-priority areas for funding.
The new round will also allow previous recipients to reapply for support more quickly, removing the three-year wait period between applications.
With growing financial pressures on community groups, the changes aim to make the funding process simpler and more accessible, providing grants of between £5000 and £10,000 for local initiatives that encourage inclusion and opportunity.
Jenny Allinson, director at The Bernicia Foundation, said: “We understand the daily and growing financial pressures many organisations and families are working under.
“The foundation was created to deliver real and lasting community benefit.
“By prioritising applications from a wider area, we can deliver even more support to charities and groups helping people find work, tackle child poverty and allow more people to access opportunities to improve their lives and the communities where they live.
“Allowing recipients to reapply who have had grant support within the past three years means organisations with a proven track record of helping communities could receive even more support from us at a time of great need.”
Since its launch five years ago, the foundation has awarded over £1.3 million in grants to 238 organisations and individuals.
