Film industry opens doors for businesses

A new series of events will give Northumberland businesses the chance to connect with the region’s expanding film and television industry.

The North East Screen Supply Chain Events, delivered by Visit Northumberland and the Northumberland Small Business Service (NSBS) in partnership with North East Screen, aim to showcase how local suppliers can support productions choosing the North East as a filming location.

From catering and accommodation to construction, floristry and transport, film and TV productions depend on a wide range of local services.

The events will highlight how regional businesses can get involved and benefit from the sector’s growing presence.

Taking place on November 19 at County Hall, Morpeth and January 22 at the Tynedale Suite in Hexham, the sessions will feature industry insights, networking opportunities and practical advice on registering as a supplier.

Businesses of all sizes and sectors are encouraged to attend.

Lucy Evermore, programme manager for NSBS, said “This is a fantastic opportunity for Northumberland businesses to discover new markets, grow their networks, and be part of an exciting and fast-growing industry.

“The screen sector in the North East is expanding, and we want to make sure local suppliers are at the heart of it.”

Holly Bray, head of marketing and partnerships at Visit Northumberland, added: “Film and television production brings huge benefits to our visitor economy, from showcasing Northumberland’s stunning landscapes on screen to creating real opportunities for local businesses.

“We’re delighted to be supporting this initiative and encourage businesses from all sectors to sign up and help connect our county’s suppliers with the growing screen industry.”

The initiative is part funded by the UK Government and the North East Combined Authority through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
