Beyond Housing backs 21 community projects
A North East and Yorkshire housing association is helping to make a difference in local neighbourhoods through its latest round of community funding.
Beyond Housing has awarded more than £10,000 to 21 local initiatives across Redcar, Scarborough and Whitby through its community fund, which supports projects that benefit children, young people and those with special educational needs and disabilities.
Launched in 2024, the fund offers grants of up to £500, with applications this year exceeding £25,000 in total requests.
A panel of 15 Beyond Housing customers reviewed all submissions to ensure the chosen projects reflect local priorities.
Among the recipients were Senses Wellbeing Centre in Skelton, which delivers sensory activities for SEND families, as well as Futureworks NY in Scarborough, which helps young people outside mainstream education through youth development programmes.
Karen Winspear, director at the Senses Wellbeing Centre, said: “I need to thank Beyond Housing because it was such an easy process to apply for the funding.
“£500 goes a long way here and we’ve been able to put on Wednesday afternoon sessions for our SEND families and populations across not just Redcar & Cleveland but the wider region too.”

Sarah Thornton, chief executive and co-founder at Futureworks, added: “'Thank you to Beyond Housing for supporting Futureworks with this equipment.
“The dyslexia pens remove barriers for our learners, improving their learning experiences, which then helps with their mental health.”
The announcement coincides with National Involvement Week, highlighting the value of resident engagement in shaping stronger, more inclusive communities.
Laura Young, community partnership and engagement manager at Beyond Housing, added: “I am so proud to play a part in the community fund, supporting our customer panel who have the difficult but rewarding task of deciding the winners, and speaking to the successful groups to hear how the fund has helped their fantastic local projects is truly a joy!”
