Nail tech goes the distance for Tiny Lives
A North East beauty business is putting endurance to the test in a creative bid to raise money for a baby charity.
Nail tech Lucy Walton, from Ponteland, is preparing for a 24-hour “nail-a-thon” challenge to raise funds for Tiny Lives, which supports premature and sick newborns.
Taking place on November 28 at Skullen Studio in Heaton, the event will see Lucy complete 16 back-to-back 90-minute nail art sessions without sleep.
The 28-year-old, known for her detailed and imaginative designs, co-owns Skullen Studio with her business partner Nicole.
Her intricate nail art, inspired by everything from pop culture icons like Sam Fender and Amy Winehouse to playful themes such as Scooby Doo and sushi, has earned national recognition – featuring in Doc Martens campaigns and even making an appearance on the red carpet at this year’s BAFTAs, where actor Elijah Young had his nails done at Skullen Studio.
Motivated by two clients who received support from Tiny Lives, Lucy hopes to raise £1000 through the challenge.
Lucy said: “I have seen first-hand how much this charity really means to people, and when my clients told me how incredible they were really felt like I wanted to do something to help.
“They have their nail appointments booked in on the night to support me, and I have been absolutely blown away by the response of how many people want to be a part of this crazy challenge.
“I don’t expect it to be easy, and I’m sure a lot of coffee will be required, but I think it will also be great fun and I can’t believe how many people are willing to get their nails done in the middle of the night.”
Donations can be made online here, with all proceeds going directly to the charity.
Lucy, who also does eyebrows and lashes at her studio, added: “I absolutely love what I do, every day and every client is a blessing.
“This is a way of hopefully giving back, and if it goes well, I want to see if I can do something even more unusual in the future.”
