Veeno brings la dolce vita to Durham
A popular Italian restaurant brand is making its mark in Durham after thousands of visitors flocked to its new venue within weeks of opening.
Veeno Italian Wine Bar & Kitchen, located at the Riverwalk development, has quickly become a city hotspot since launching in September.
The venue offers guests a true taste of Italy with hand-stretched pizzas, rich pastas, indulgent sharing boards and guided wine-tasting experiences.
Franchise owners Dan and Donna Lewis, who brought the brand to Durham, said they’ve been “overwhelmed” by the response.
Dan said: “We knew Veeno would bring something special to the area, but the support has exceeded all expectations.
“From locals to students and visitors from further afield, everyone has really embraced the concept – great food, fantastic wine and that unmistakable Italian atmosphere.”
Donna added: “We wanted to create a space where people can slow down, share food, and make memories – just like they do in Italy.
“Seeing so many happy faces walk through the door each day has been incredible.”
One of its most popular offerings, A Trip to Sicily, invites guests to sample wines from founder Nino Caruso’s family vineyard in Marsala – the same vineyard that supplies Veeno’s venues nationwide.
Nino added: “We’re incredibly proud to see Veeno thriving in the North East.
“Durham has such a vibrant, welcoming spirit, and it’s wonderful to see people here enjoying the fruits of our family’s vineyard.
“This success shows there’s a real appetite for genuine Italian experiences – and we’re excited for what’s to come.”
As Christmas approaches, Veeno is celebrating in style with its Buon Natale menu, featuring three courses and a festive cocktail for £30.
Highlights include Carpaccio Bresaola, Lasagna ’Nduja and a Pistachio Tiramisù based on Nino’s grandmother’s recipe.
Donna added: “Christmas is all about coming together over good food and wine – and that’s what Veeno is all about..
“We wanted to create something that feels both festive and authentic, so guests can enjoy a true Italian Christmas right here in the city.”
