Builder secures backing for 428-home scheme
A builder has secured approval for a 400-plus-home development.
Bellway has been backed to create an estate in Darlington.
Bosses say the 428-property scheme – off the town’s Staindrop Road – will include 128 affordable homes and 20 bungalows.
They add building work is set to start in December.
Known as Baydale Village, the venture forms part of a wider blueprint to create a 985-home development earmarked to include a GP surgery, shop, sports pitches and land for a primary and early years school.
Mark Gabriele, head of land for Bellway Durham, said: “This is a landmark moment.
“Our development will provide exactly what this area needs in terms of high-quality homes that people will enjoy living in.
“And with 30 per cent of the properties being designated as affordable homes, there are opportunities for people to have a home through rental, shared ownership or First Homes for discounted sale.
“A neighbourhood of this size will deliver a significant boost to the local economy, creating jobs and supporting businesses.”
Bellway secured planning permission from Darlington Borough Council.
