Steel firm 'set to forge ahead' with factory move
A steel processing firm has started work on a £2 million factory move.
Steel Benders UK is switching to a six-acre Hartlepool base.
Bosses say the expansion – which will create a 40,000sq ft hub on the footprint of an ex-Caparo forge – will create at least 15 jobs.
They add a production shed is set to be operational by June next year, with the Brenda Road site providing space to house larger equipment and deliver “significantly increased” production.
The move will see the company, which provides steel bending, forming and folding services, move from rented Middlesbrough units.
Steel Benders UK is supplying all steel materials for the Hartlepool development, with Thornaby and Gateshead-based Brims Construction leading the first phase of on-site construction.
Tania Cooper, Steel Benders UK managing director, said: “Brims Construction is stripping back the old plant and building the foundations for our machinery.
“These are incredibly exciting times; this is the first purpose-built site we’ve ever had.
“We’ve been looking at this land for two years while we worked through planning challenges, so to see construction underway is hugely rewarding.
“Once we’re operational, job creation will follow - we have big ambitions for this site.”
Andrew Jackson, Brims Construction’s regional construction manager, added: “It is excellent to see our team leading the initial phase, bringing a longstanding industrial site back into productive use.
“This is a truly North East-led scheme, and we are confident the strong progress we are already making will deliver a facility that will serve Steel Benders and Hartlepool for decades to come.”
