Salko powers up with new depot
A Yorkshire-based engineering provider is expanding its operations with the launch of a new plant hire facility.
Salko UK, the national mechanical and electrical engineering firm, has opened a dedicated electric plant hire warehouse in Balkholme, near Goole, strengthening its commitment to sustainability and modernising support for contractors.
Bosses say the new site will allow mechanical and electrical specialists to hire fully electric lighting and power equipment, including LED systems, transformers and extension leads.
All products are 100 per cent electric, offering greater efficiency, reliability and reduced environmental impact.
The depot also houses specialist welding tools, with on-site support available from Salko UK’s technical team.
Georgina Wilkinson, chief financial officer at Salko UK, said: “Customer feedback has been central to this investment.
“While electrification of the vehicle fleet has been a big priority, more widely, the market has been calling for more modern, efficient electric plant hire options and we’ve listened.
“Our new Balkholme site will provide M&E specialists with easy access to the latest equipment – all designed to reduce power consumption and support our clients’ decarbonisation goals.”
Brett Dainton, formerly of Clarks Vehicle Conversions, has been appointed stores manager, working alongside facilities supervisor Pete Myers to oversee the facility’s operations and inventory.
Located close to major industrial hubs along the Yorkshire coastline, the warehouse has been stocked with brand-new electrical equipment, each item undergoing extensive in-house testing before being made available for hire.
The investment forms part of Salko UK’s broader sustainability strategy, which includes reducing emissions across its operations and installing renewable energy infrastructure such as solar panels and EV charging points at its offices.
Georgina added: “We see plant hire as a real opportunity for growth and by providing reliable, sustainable and cost-effective hire options, we’re helping customers meet modern efficiency standards without increasing project costs.”
