NHS leader takes fundraising to new heights

A North East health charity is celebrating a fundraising boost after a senior NHS leader completed a skydive to support patient wellbeing.

James Duncan, chief executive of Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW), has raised £1727 for the SHINE Fund after jumping from a plane in Grange-over-Sands.

The charity provides additional therapeutic activities and comfort items to enhance patient care across the Trust’s hospital and community services.

James said: “I have to say it was an amazing experience.

“I kept expecting the nerves to kick in but they just didn’t. I enjoyed every second.

“Thank you to everyone who has sponsored me.

“I’m delighted to have raised so much.

“The charity is going from strength to strength, and I know the money will be used well to support people who have been in or are in contact with our services.”

SHINE supports people during some of the most challenging periods of their lives, funding activities and equipment that promote wellbeing, recovery and connection.

Its contributions range from gardening tools and bikes to horse riding sessions and seasonal decorations for inpatient wards.

Since its launch in 2014, the charity has funded hundreds of initiatives, including yoga classes, exercise equipment and pet therapy, helping patients work towards brighter, more fulfilling lives.

Daria Ansari-Saeid, marketing officer for CNTW’s charity, added: “We are amazed by James’s courage and generosity.

“The funds he has raised will bring comfort and joy to patients at a time that can be especially difficult for many patients and their carers.”
