Change of Harte in shopfitter firm buyout
A shopfitting firm is eyeing growth following a “milestone” multi-million-pound management buyout.
Harte Companies Limited has taken over Harte Woodworking and Harte Shop Equipment.
The venture is being led by former commercial director-turned-managing director Fraser Thomson.
The deal includes the acquisition of Hunter Holdings Limited – the parent company of Harte Woodworking and Harte Shop Equipment – from Ian Hunter and D&E Hunter 1986 Settlement Trust.
Based in Ossett, near Wakefield, 115-staff-strong Harte has designed and made shopfitting equipment for more than 50 years, with its order book including retailers such as Estee Lauder Companies, Aldi, B&M and Home Bargains.
Fraser, who joined the business nearly 20 years ago, beginning as a junior sales executive, headed the management buyout alongside Ryan Willis, who has taken over as commercial director.
Fraser said: “This is an exciting milestone for Harte and I.
“I’m incredibly proud that the many years of learning, collaboration and support from exceptional colleagues, customers and suppliers has led to this moment.
“I want to thank the great team I’ve had the privilege to work with, both past and present, and I’m looking forward to the exciting times ahead as we build for the future.”
Harte Companies Limited was advised on the deal by corporate, commercial property, employment and commercial teams from Bradford, Huddersfield and Leeds-based law firm Schofield Sweeney.
Michael Cantwell, a partner in the firm’s corporate team, said: “This is a fantastic story for Fraser.
“We are delighted our multi-disciplinary team was able to support him and his team, and look forward to providing ongoing assistance.”
